rolig commented on the word the chance for us to make that change
This may be my favorite line from Obama's victory speech - it sets exactly the right tone:
"What began twenty-one months ago in the depths of winter must not end on this autumn night. This victory alone is not the change we seek - it is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were. It cannot happen without you."

Twenty-one months…
** shakes head in gentle bemusement **

I agree, rolig. The job isn't over. It's only just started. In fact The Onion also hit the right tone with this article.

bilby commented on the word the chance for us to make that change
From the article:
"Today Americans have grudgingly taken a giant leap forward," Williams continued. "And all it took was severe economic downturn, a bloody and unjust war in Iraq, terrorist attacks on lower Manhattan, nearly 2,000 deaths in New Orleans, and more than three centuries of frequently violent racial turmoil."
Said Williams, "The American people should be commended for their long-overdue courage."
